BRAINERD, MN – The fastest show on Earth returns to Brainerd International Raceway in 2025 for the 43rd Annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. The world’s best drag racers will be on display and serving up a steady diet of nitro-fueled drag racing. Announcing for the nationals in 2025 they are also taking it to the streets. For an all-time first, the NHRA is taking the race back to the streets of Brainerd, MN in the Washington Street Shootout. “Drag racing was invented the first time someone looked at the car next to him at a stoplight and thought that he could go faster.” Stated an official with the NHRA, “In August, we get back to our roots.”
Taking pro racing to the streets is not a new concept. “NASCAR is racing in Chicago on a street course, Formula 1 is in Vegas, both are incredible. But Drag Racing is more than just glitz and glamour, it’s about the soul of racing. Starting under the Brainerd Water Tower and rushing towards the iconic Mississippi River…What could be better than that?” Said Ron Capps, driver of the Napa Funny Car. “Our goal is simple. Be the fastest recorded car on a public road in United States History.”
