Brainerd International Raceway’s quarter-mile drag strip is the fastest track in the world, after Tony Schumacher went the fastest MPH ever in his Top Fuel Dragster in 2005.  An incredible speed of 337.58 MPH

The track is one of the favorite stops for pro drivers on the NHRA Nationals circuit after it was reconstructed in 2002. A new 700-foot concrete launch pad was added and new asphalt for the remaining 600 feet was installed. The new concrete launch pad creates superior traction for the high-powered Top Alcohol and Top Fuel cars, generating high speeds and fast times.

But the new track is also a favorite of racers at all levels, and BIR hosts all levels of drag racing, from street cars on Wednesday nights to Junior Dragsters to amateur racers in the Bracket Drag Racing Series to Outlaw racers to semi pros and pros. Racers all agree that BIR’s track is fun to race on.

BIR’s drag strip is also one of the safest tracks in the country. Over a half-mile shutdown area allows racers plenty of time to slow their cars down.

The drag strip has a long storied history of drag racing, dating back to 1969, when BIR converted the mile-long straightaway on its road course to a drag strip and hosted an NHRA Divisional Points Race. In 1977, BIR hosted the Crown Auto Funny Car Championships and the Crown Auto Winston Points Championship. Since then, the world’s top drag racers have made BIR an annual stop.

BIR is committed to its drag racing program, as evidenced by the strong Wednesday Night Drags – Street Legal Style program that it continues to grow, the Bracket Drag Racing Series, that attracts more than 250 cars a weekend, and the Muscle car series which has something for everyone!  It does help to have a world-class race track on which to build these programs.
